Vietnam and New Zealand established diplomatic ties in 1975 and elevated their relations to a strategic partnership in 2020. The cooperation results obtained so far are considered a positive foundation for the two countries to foster their cooperation in the future.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern paid an official visit to Vietnam on November 14-17, 2022. The Vietnam - New Zealand Strategic Partnership has developed strongly over the years and expanded to all fields of politics, economy, trade, investment, security and defense, education and training, and travel.

2020 marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and New Zealand. The two countries are looking to lift ties to strategic partnership.
